{"id":5906,"date":"2026-05-20T14:58:57","date_gmt":"2026-05-20T14:58:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mindfulescapades.com\/?p=5906"},"modified":"2026-05-20T14:58:57","modified_gmt":"2026-05-20T14:58:57","slug":"ll-cool-j-admitted-he-had-no-idea-his-invention-would-become-one-of-the-most-used-phrases-of-all-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mindfulescapades.com\/?p=5906","title":{"rendered":"LL Cool J admitted he \u2018had no idea\u2019 his invention would become one of the most-used phrases of all time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LL Cool J said he hadn\u2019t a clue his catchy phrase would go on to become one of the most popular words used by the youth of today, a quarter of a century later.<\/p>\n<p>The 57-year-old New York rapper, whose artist name stands for Ladies Love Cool James, rose to prominence in the 1980s alongside the likes of Beastie Boys and Run-DMC after being signed by Def Jam Recordings.<\/p>\n<p>The two-time Grammy winner emerged in the hip hop scene at the young age of 16 and while many fans will remember him for his work on hits like \u2018Going Back to Cali\u2019 and \u2018I\u2019m Bad\u2019, his secret influence can be heard in the slang of youngsters today.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6819 aligncenter lazyautosizes lazyloaded\" src=\"https:\/\/hnsviral.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/dvsscds-300x200.webp\" sizes=\"auto, 712px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hnsviral.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/dvsscds-300x200.webp 300w, https:\/\/hnsviral.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/dvsscds.webp 640w\" alt=\"\" width=\"795\" height=\"530\" data-src=\"https:\/\/hnsviral.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/dvsscds-300x200.webp\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/hnsviral.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/dvsscds-300x200.webp 300w, https:\/\/hnsviral.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/dvsscds.webp 640w\" data-sizes=\"auto\" data-eio-rwidth=\"300\" data-eio-rheight=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p>LL, whose real name is James Todd Smith, revealed in a 2024 interview with the Metro that the peculiar phrasing was born out of his 2000 track.<\/p>\n<p>The lyrics go: \u201cLike ecstasy, my crew\u2019s next to me \/ It\u2019s my destiny, to make history I\u2019m the emperor, Rap King \/ From the streets of Paris, up north to Sing-Sing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne question: Do I do my thing thing? (Hell Yeah) \/ Then putcha L\u2019s in the air, for the Greatest Rapper All Time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re still clueless, the chorus is a dead giveaway: \u201cI\u2019m the GOAT!\u201d it goes, \u201cThe Greatest Of All Time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Aptly titled, \u2018The G.O.A.T\u2019, the record resonated with fans and millions more who have adapted the phrase to use it in their everyday vocabulary.<\/p>\n<p>For example, you might hear a sporting legend or some other culturally accepted icon being referred to as \u2018the GOAT\u2019 in their field, like Simone Biles of Team USA, considered the GOAT in gymnastics, or Beyonc\u00e9 in the music industry, or LeBron James in basketball, to name just a few.<\/p>\n<p>He then said he came up with the term and acronym from \u2018smashing together\u2019 Muhammad Ali\u2019s famous line, \u2018I am the greatest\u2019 as well as the nickname given to the South Carolina street basketball player, Earl \u2018the Goat\u2019 Manigault.<\/p>\n<p>Though Earl, born in 1944 and died age 53 in 1998, years before LL\u2019s track, was called \u2018the Goat\u2019, the singer says \u2018there\u2019s no question\u2019 he \u2018came up\u2019 with the moniker.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6821 aligncenter lazyautosizes lazyloaded\" src=\"https:\/\/hnsviral.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/vsd-300x200.webp\" sizes=\"auto, 712px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hnsviral.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/vsd-300x200.webp 300w, https:\/\/hnsviral.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/vsd.webp 640w\" alt=\"\" width=\"806\" height=\"537\" data-src=\"https:\/\/hnsviral.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/vsd-300x200.webp\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/hnsviral.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/vsd-300x200.webp 300w, https:\/\/hnsviral.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/vsd.webp 640w\" data-sizes=\"auto\" data-eio-rwidth=\"300\" data-eio-rheight=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p>LL then went on to use the term on his eighth studio album, G.O.A.T., which featured James T. Smith: The Greatest of All Time<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cIt\u2019s pretty wild that it turned out how it did. I had no idea it was gonna become a worldwide phrase and statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo be able to touch the world through my art like that is pretty dope. What it says to me is that I can do more creatively. It says to me, if I\u2019m capable of creating terminology for the entire globe, I can do some big things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The link comes as LL is set to headline a New Year\u2019s Eve concert in Philadelphia this year, completely for free.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPhilly, don\u2019t call it a comeback.
