A major U.S. potato chip brand has issued a recall of certain potato chips amid fears of salmonella contamination. One seasoning ingredient is reportedly the culprit.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you\u2019ve recently stocked up on chips, you may want to take a closer look before opening your next bag. A popular snack brand is now pulling several products from shelves after fears of a potentially dangerous contamination.<\/p>\n

According to the\u00a0U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Utz Quality Foods has issued a recall of certain potato chips sold under the Zapp\u2019s and Dirty brands. The concern comes from a seasoning ingredient used in the chips.<\/p>\n

The chips contain dry milk powder that may be contaminated with Salmonella, a bacterium that can cause serious illness.<\/p>\n

Although the batches were tested and found to be contamination-free before use, the company says it is recalling the products \u201cout of an abundance of caution.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis voluntary recall follows notification to Utz that a seasoning containing dry milk powder, sourced from California Dairies, Inc. and supplied by a third-party supplier, may contain the presence of\u00a0Salmonella. The affected seasoning batches tested negative for\u00a0Salmonella\u00a0prior to use; however, out of an abundance of caution, Utz is recalling the limited varieties of Zapp\u2019s and Dirty brand potato chips identified below,\u201d the FDA\u00a0writes.<\/p>\n

Major potato chip brands issue recall over fears of Salmonella contamination<\/h2>\n

So far, no cases of illness have been reported. Still, health officials are urging people not to take any chances. Anyone who has purchased the affected chips should\u00a0not eat them<\/strong>. Instead, they should be thrown away or returned for a refund.<\/p>\n

Salmonella infections can cause symptoms like fever, diarrhea, nausea, and stomach cramps.<\/p>\n

Symptoms can appear anywhere from a few hours to several days after exposure. In vulnerable groups \u2013 such as young children, the elderly, or people with weakened immune systems \u2013 the infection can become severe.<\/p>\n

The recalled chips were distributed across the United States and include several flavors and sizes from both brands.<\/p>\n
