Stop it.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">When her husband Gerry McCann returns home moments later he can be heard telling Wandelt: \u2018You need help \u2013 you are not Madeleine. Please do not hassle us. We are not having a discussion.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Wandelt, 24, later posted a letter through the couple\u2019s door in which she called Mrs McCann \u2018mummy\u2019. We are sat like private investigators with car lights out\u2026 never thought I would be stalking the mccans.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Mr Duck said: \u2018Their attendance outside the McCanns\u2019 address was the result of complex planning and the expenditure of significant amounts of money.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">\u2018Whatever they suggest their beliefs or understandings they do not afford someone the right to lie in wait for their targets, outside their own home, and enforce their will upon them \u2013 that is precisely what happened.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The following day, a letter was posted through the McCanns\u2019 door which began: \u2018Dear Mum (Kate\u2019). In the note, Wandelt apologised for causing her distress but said she felt a \u2018strong connection\u2019 to Mrs McCann.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">She wrote: \u2018I think that inside your heart you believe and know who I am and I am your daughter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">\u2018I don\u2019t understand why you won\u2019t do a DNA test with me. I think you are scared\u2026.yesterday I heard a lot of care and love in your voice. I believe and I hope that you will find a way to contact me.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">It ended, in what Mr Duck said was a \u2018final cruel signature\u2019 with \u2018lots of love Madeleine\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Mr Duck said the letter showed she \u2018recognised the damage and distress that she causing\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The court was told Wandelt had earlier tried to attend a vigil in the McCanns\u2019 village and had accosted the village priest and Mrs McCann\u2019s great aunt, Janet Kennedy, when she discovered Mr and Mrs McCann were not there.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">She also contacted David and Fiona Payne, friends of the McCanns and members of the so-called \u2018Tapas Seven\u2019 who were there on the night Madeleine disappeared.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">One message sent on Christmas Eve 2024 sent a message to Mr Payne read \u2018Merry Christmas David. The truth will set you all free\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">On another occasion she left a note and bottle of wine on the doorstep of the McCann\u2019s home as part of her efforts to get the McCanns take a DNA test.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The court heard Wandelt\u2019s DNA was taken by police in May 2024 but destroyed once it was \u2018discovered that there was no prospect\u2019 she was Madeleine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Mr Duck explained Spragg \u2018was a forthright supporter of the conspiracy theory\u2019 that the McCanns were \u2018some way involved in the disappearance of their daughter, despite the unequivocal evidence to the contrary\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">He told jurors the two women began to communicate in earnest in mid-2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Mr Duck said messages sent to Operation Grange \u2013 the Met police operation looking into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann \u2013 revealed Spragg\u2019s \u2018real feelings about the case\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">One, sent on November 10, said: \u2018Everyone knows the McCanns are guilty and you know the truth and a massive cover up is happening\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">He said the ends to which the two women were prepared to go were \u2018remarkable\u2019 and included discussion removing bags of rubbish from the McCanns\u2019 address.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">In another message Spragg said: \u2018Shame we cant follow them to a bar or restaurant and get a knife or fork.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Mr Duck said Spragg was \u2018front and centre of the pursuit of the McCanns\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The court was told that Wandelt also purported to have very clear memories of \u2018her\u2019 abduction in May 2007 \u2013 claiming to have been injected before being taken by a man with \u2018tanned skin\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">She told a police officer: \u2018Someone gave me to the person who took me. Before it happened I remember being abused by one man in the room.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">\u2018A few other people were there too. Help me please. I know Gerry is controlling you and you\u2019re probably scared of him but please get in touch with me\u2026\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The court heard Wandelt was arrested when she arrived at Bristol airport in February, on a flight paid for by Spragg, having made plans to go to the McCanns\u2019 place of work. Spragg was arrested outside the airport shortly afterwards.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Wandelt largely answered \u2018no comment\u2019 in interview save for observing that all she was doing was asking for a DNA test.
